35 kN Landing Barge Equipment
35 kN Landing Barge Equipment
A complete set of 35 kN hydraulic landing barge winches built in Yatala for two landing barges working South East Queensland waterways, covering anchor handling, steering and barge door operation from a single hydraulic power pack.
Landing Barge Winches Project Overview
Custom-built 35 kN hydraulic winches for anchor, steering and barge door duties
A full set of deck equipment for two landing barges working the waterways of south-east Queensland: anchor winches, steering gear and the winches that raise and lower the bow ramp door. Rated around a 35 kN duty with 200 m of rope on the anchor winches, the set includes electro-hydraulic winches, a capstan with a handwheel, manual handwheel winches with gearboxes, a hydraulic ram for the door and stainless control panels with pre-made wiring looms, all built to work together on the same vessel. Every item was manufactured and tested at our Yatala, Queensland workshop and supplied as a matched package for both barges.

Operational & Technical Breakdown
An in-depth look at the 35 kN landing barge equipment's performance and technical capabilities
The anchor winches are electro-hydraulic drum winches with 200 m of rope at 35 kN, a brake to hold the barge on its anchors and a warping capstan head for line handling. The bow door is operated by a hydraulic ram and a winch arrangement so the ramp can be lowered onto a beach or bank and raised for transit, and the steering gear uses manual handwheel winches through gearboxes for direct, reliable control without electrical dependence.
All the machinery is painted in a marine grey system with stainless fittings, and the electrical side was supplied as stainless steel control panels with wiring looms made up and labelled so the barge builder could install them directly. Building both vessel sets together at Yatala meant every component was tested to the same procedure and the two barges received identical, interchangeable equipment.
Other Winch Applications
Versatile winching solutions across multiple industries.
Beyond marine transport, matched deck equipment packages suit ferries, work punts and pontoons where anchoring, steering and ramp gear all have to come from one supplier.
Barge-mounted winches for pipeline crossings, dredging support and waterway maintenance – hydraulic drive with the corrosion protection inland and coastal waters demand.
Positioning and load-handling winches for fabrication yards and slipway workshops – compact hydraulic units that can share a single power pack.
Project Conclusion
The landing barge equipment package delivered anchoring, steering and bow door machinery for two vessels as one engineered set. Designed, built and tested in Yatala by Australian Certified Winches.
Like every winch we build, it was designed to AS 1418, the Australian Standard for cranes, hoists and winches, and signed off by our RPEQ-registered engineers before load testing in Yatala.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about landing barge deck equipment.
What equipment does a landing barge need from ACW?
Typically anchor winches to hold the barge off a beach, steering gear, and the ram and winch arrangement that raises and lowers the bow door. ACW supplied all of these for two barges along with the control panels and wiring looms.
Why use manual handwheel winches for some functions?
Manual winches through gearboxes give direct, reliable control that does not depend on hydraulics or electrics, which suits steering and secondary functions on a simple vessel and gives a fallback if power is lost.
How is the bow door operated?
A hydraulic ram and winch arrangement lowers the ramp door onto the landing and raises it for transit, with the door held securely in either position. The system is sized to the door weight and the barge’s hydraulic supply.
Why were the control panels supplied with wiring looms?
Pre-made, labelled looms in stainless panels let the barge builder connect the equipment quickly and correctly, and mean both barges were wired identically. It also reduces commissioning time on the water.
Can the package be adapted for a different barge?
Yes. ACW sizes the anchor winch pull, rope length, door gear and steering to the vessel, and can supply the full package or individual items, tested at Yatala before delivery.
Fitting Out a Barge?
Tell us the vessel, the duties and the deck space. Our RPEQ engineers will size a certified set of barge winches for it.
