Australian Certified Winches is an Australian owned and operated company strategically located in the Brisbane–Gold Coast corridor in Yatala, Queensland. We design, engineer and manufacture custom and standard industrial winches for Australia’s most demanding industries.
Our Industrial Winches & Engineering Solutions
Industrial winches built around the application: electric, hydraulic, standard, capstan and custom winches from 1 kN to 1000 kN, backed by in-house engineering and general fabrication.
Custom Winches
Purpose-built systems for specialised applications where standard products do not meet the operational or compliance requirements.
Electric Winches
Single-phase and three-phase hauling and hoisting winches with variable speed, pendant and radio-control options.
Hydraulic Winches
Integrated hydraulic systems, powerpacks and controls engineered for high-load and demanding operating environments.
Capstan Winches
Diesel-hydraulic cable-hauling capstans and electric mooring capstans for utility, marine and infrastructure work.
Standard Winches
Quality systems from established international manufacturers when an off-the-shelf solution meets the specification.
General Engineering
Fabrication, machining, structural modifications, repairs and engineering support from our Yatala workshop.

Trusted Australian winch manufacturer Backed by 30+ years of experience
Australian Certified Winches was established in Yatala, Queensland in 2017 by founder Grant Barrett, who brings more than 30 years of winch design and manufacturing experience. From one-off custom builds to electric, hydraulic, standard and capstan winches, our in-house team designs, manufactures and load-tests every unit — with full documentation and certification to AS1418 on every build.
Built for Demanding Industrial Applications
Across Local & International Markets
We design and manufacture industrial winches for eight sectors across Australia and internationally — each engineered to the load, environment and compliance standards of the job.
Mining
Heavy-duty winches for underground recovery, longwall seam-moves, conveyor take-up and plumb bob surveying. Built to MDG33 for NSW coal mines — from 1 kN to 100-tonne capacity.
Construction
Electric and diesel-hydraulic winches for cable hauling, pontoon manoeuvring, hoisting and civil infrastructure. Proven on telecoms towers, marine construction and the Australian hire market.
Marine
Mooring winches, slipway haulers, anchor windlasses and survey winches built to DNV 2.22, Lloyd’s and ABS standards — from 2000 m oceanographic research to commercial trawlers.
Utilities
River ferry cable-recovery systems, water-treatment pump retrieval winches and powered cable spools — built for public infrastructure and utility maintenance.
Oil & Gas
Pneumatic winches for fuel refineries and explosive atmospheres. Inherently spark-free design with fail-safe secondary braking for hazardous-area operations.
Green Energy
Pumped-hydro mooring winches and renewable-energy infrastructure. 140 kN pontoon mooring systems and 50 kN electric hoisting winches delivered to major Australian dam projects.
Commercial Fishing
Hydraulic try winches and trawler equipment built for marine corrosion — 316L stainless steel construction for long service life at sea.
Manufacturing
Custom 316L stainless-steel winches for chemical plants, fertiliser processing and harsh industrial environments where standard materials won’t survive.

Why Choose Us?
Six practical reasons technical buyers keep coming back to our Yatala workshop.
RPEQ Engineers In-House
Every design is produced and verified in-house by Registered Professional Engineers of Queensland.
Load-Tested Before It Leaves
Every winch is load-tested to 125% of its safe working load and supplied with a certified report.
1 kN to 1000 kN
One team covers the full range, from plumb-bob survey winches to 100-tonne recovery systems.
Any Power Source
Electric, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic or diesel drives for mains, site or remote power.
Repairs & Service for Any Make
We repair, recondition and re-certify winches, power packs, motors and brakes of any make.
One Point of Contact
Design, fabrication, controls, documentation and commissioning from one team, enquiry to handover.
More Than a Winch Supplier
The difference is the depth of engineering, manufacturing and project knowledge behind every system. Our RPEQ-registered engineers design it, our Yatala workshop builds and load-tests it, and every one of our industrial winches leaves with the documentation technical buyers expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our custom winches, electric and hydraulic winches, engineering capability, certification standards and project support across Australia and internationally.
What industries do you supply winching solutions for?
We supply winches to mining, marine, construction, utilities, oil and gas, green energy, manufacturing and commercial fishing. Every winch is engineered to the operational and compliance requirements of the industry — including AS1418, MDG33, DNV, Lloyds and ABS where applicable.
Do you build custom winches?
Yes — custom is what we do. Most clients come to us because they need a winch that does not exist as a catalogue product. We design, engineer, manufacture and certify custom winches to your exact load, duty cycle, environment and compliance requirements. Our in-house team of mechanical and RPEQ-registered engineers handles the design and verification end-to-end.
Do you supply electric and hydraulic winches?
Yes. We design and manufacture electric winches (single phase, three phase, AC and DC) and hydraulic winches with full system integration into existing hydraulic circuits. We also build pneumatic winches for hazardous areas. We will recommend the right drive type for your application based on duty, environment and host platform.
Can you help with engineering and fabrication?
Yes. Beyond complete winch builds, we provide engineering design, RPEQ verification, precision machining (including in-house CNC), structural fabrication, hydraulic system design, and general engineering services. The same capability that builds our winches is available to local industry through our Yatala workshop.
Are your winches built to relevant industry standards?
Every winch we build is designed to AS 1418, the principal Australian Standard for cranes, hoists and winches, as a minimum. We routinely build and certify industrial winches to MDG33 (mine winders), DNV 2.22 (offshore lifting appliances), Lloyd’s Register and ABS (marine anchoring). Each winch is delivered with a complete certification documentation pack.
