120 kN 12T Electro-Hydraulic Hauling Winch
120 kN 12T Electro-Hydraulic Hauling Winch
A 120 kN electro-hydraulic hauling winch built in Yatala to haul a mine processing conveyor up and down an incline, with a high-holding manual parking brake and fully proportional control from a 5 m wandering pendant.
Hauling Winch Project Overview
A custom-built 120 kN electro-hydraulic winch for a mine processing conveyor
A one-off 120 kN electro-hydraulic hauling winch on a skid, designed to haul a mine processing conveyor up and down an incline during mining operations. As the pit develops the conveyor has to be repositioned, and this winch does the pulling: 60 m of rope on the drum, a high holding power manual parking brake to lock the conveyor in place between moves, and fully proportional control from a 5 m wandering pendant so the operator can walk with the load. The winch, hydraulic power pack and control cabinet all sit on one skid inside a yellow safety cage. Engineered, built and load tested at our Yatala, Queensland workshop.

Operational & Technical Breakdown
An in-depth look at the 120 kN electro-hydraulic hauling winch's performance and technical capabilities
The skid carries the drum, planetary gearbox and hydraulic motor at one end and the electric motor, pump and hydraulic reservoir at the other, with the control cabinet mounted on the frame and a mesh cage over the drum. Forklift pockets and lifting lugs let the whole package be moved as the conveyor moves. The drum is grooved for 60 m of rope at 120 kN, with the drum bearings and drive coupling sized for the shock loads that come with dragging structure up a grade.
Holding is as important as pulling. A spring-applied brake on the drive stops the drum whenever the control is released, and a separate high holding power manual parking brake clamps the drum for the long periods the conveyor stays put. A proportional valve controlled from the 5 m wandering pendant gives smooth, precise speed in both directions, and the unit was pull tested at Yatala with the brakes proven under load before dispatch.
Other Winch Applications
Versatile winching solutions across multiple industries.
Beyond mining, a skid-mounted electro-hydraulic hauling winch with a parking brake suits any plant that has to move heavy structures along a track and hold them there.
Hauling conveyor and equipment modules on wind, solar and pumped hydro construction sites – proportional pendant control for precise positioning on grades.
Incline hauling, plant positioning and heavy component moves on civil and infrastructure projects – electro-hydraulic drive with high holding power for loads on slopes.
Project Conclusion
The 120 kN electro-hydraulic hauling winch and skid gave the mine a self-contained, certified way to move its conveyor and lock it in place. Designed, built and tested in Yatala by Australian Certified Winches.
Like every winch we build, it was designed to AS 1418, the Australian Standard for cranes, hoists and winches, and signed off by our RPEQ-registered engineers before load testing in Yatala.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about skid-mounted hauling winches for conveyor and structure moves.
Why does this winch have two brakes?
The spring-applied service brake stops and holds the drum during normal operation. The manual parking brake is a separate high holding power clamp that locks the drum for days or weeks while the conveyor sits on the incline, taking the load off the drive train entirely.
What is a wandering pendant?
A hand-held control on a 5 m cable that lets the operator walk alongside the load rather than standing at the winch. The pendant gives fully proportional speed in both directions, so the conveyor can be inched into position.
Why is the rope capacity only 60 m?
The conveyor moves in defined steps along its incline, so 60 m of rope covers the travel with margin. A shorter rope on a wide drum spools cleanly and keeps the drum diameter, and therefore the whole skid, compact.
How is the skid moved between positions?
Forklift pockets in the base and certified lifting lugs on the frame let site equipment pick the complete package up, winch, power pack and cabinet together, and set it down at the next anchor point.
Does the winch need a hydraulic supply from the site?
No. An electric motor on the skid drives its own hydraulic pump and reservoir, so the winch only needs a three-phase connection. All hydraulics stay inside the cage.
Hauling on an Incline?
Tell us the load, the grade and the travel distance. Our RPEQ engineers will size a certified electro-hydraulic hauling winch for it.
